Results for the 7/2 Autox?

July 2 was my first autocross (in 25 years).  Had a blast.  Most fun I've had for $30.00.  It was well organized and went smoothly.

Results would be nice.

I am glad that you had a great time. just think of how much better your experience might be in a larger site, better orgainzation and real competition. And, yes, you would have to work a bit more to have all the fun.  If you like, You can do all that  by joining the comitee to organize AX events.

For those of you who don't know it, I was the one who did timing and scoring. I believe I may still have the timing sheets for the last event so I will try to compose a results list for everyone from that. Patrick has been very busy with work and family, so I figure I should be able to help out with this one.

Just give me a few days to get it all together and I will see what I can do.

I was also at the July 2nd meeting. I helped out in the morning, as I was not able to drive due to family commitments. I had a blast and would be happy to help out again, even when I'm not driving. It is my intent to drive in the next AX.

I personally think that there's nothing wrong with the current AX - sure more participants would be nice, but a friend of mine came along to a previous AX and commented that he preferred it relative to SCCA events, where they tend to be TOO competative. He commented that he thought we were welcoming and provided a good environment for newbies.

If you check http://www.phillyscca.com/solo2/index.html, you can find "How To Run A Solo Program" manual written by Ken Buck from the Philly SCCA. They run a pretty good event and very competitive.

I've been to a lot of Autocross events and by far, Philly SCCA and NNJR PCA does a good job in organizing and running an event. I think Riesentoter did a good job but could improve in some areas, like the grid and parking, announce time so people know how well they do, post all the time not just the best time. Also, maybe do a parade lap before the actual run so people don't get lost especially the newbies?

I'll be glad to help out again in the future but not the 9/3/06 AX event Let me know what else I can do to make Riesentoter AX events a success.

Do we have any computer savy (software and hardware) club members that would like to see if we could, again, interface the J.A. Circuits timing equipment to a computer? If in the results ALL the times are posted, together with the type of car, we may get a bit more interest. from participants. How about writing a good exciting article about the competitiveness. Do we have a good writer? I know, I am terrrrrrrible! Anouncing the times, or having an electronic display would do wonders.

I might be able to.  I don't know what interfaces they use, but I can do hardware and software like this.  I've seen how some other clubs do this, and I agree, it would really help those of us who like to be competitive.

I think the main issue with rtr autox, is just that, its not competitive so those of us with egos have no reason to go.  Maybe that suggests more creative class designations?  Nick I know you have way more knowledge/experience than I do -- but maybe if there was an advanced class, like pro class in scca, and some of us can compete for pax.  We could adjust the pax for the cars we get and make it interesting.  That same class could be Porsche and non-porsche, so we could encourage some other good drivers to come out (why compete in X class when you might get beat by a Drexel go-kart .  I'm a terrible golfer but its fun when my handicap is in play!  Competition is the key -- not just with ourselves but also with each other.

Daren, I understand your point, and I know very well how the SCCA does their pax index, but unfortunately, they lump Porsches in just a few groups so it would make an ALL Porsche event unfair due to the disparity between models and years put in the same class. NNJR has about 8 stock classes, and even those are separated into Veterans, Rookies(1st yr.), and ladies plus improoved and modified classes. This works when you get consistently 100+ participants for every event, and at least 1/3 of them go home with some kind of trophy. It will snow in July before we get that participation in RTR, so for the smaller regions, a group of us, thru an advocate group have worked on a system that is uniform and can be tailored to any size AX participation. Look at Maverick Region AX program. Charlie Davis, whom I have worked with, tailored an online registration form (from an Excel spreadsheet) to class cars in stock form and then individual's car moved to a different class based on the modifications. This is basically ranking ALL the cars at a particulat AX, based on their potential performance, and then grouping them into as many classes a region wants to have. If there is only ONE car in a class, is there competition?
