Hi, I own an '87 951

I recently removed the cat from my exhaust and replaced it with a steel straight pipe.

I was told by someone that this was the completely wrong thing to do and that the car won't run right due to incorrect backpressure. I think otherwise.  I would like an opinion of whoever cares to respond. Much appreciated.

Your "otherwise" thinking is correct.  Your car has plenty of backpressure with the turbo itself, and any further back pressure beyond that merely hurts performance.

FWIW we put a Fabspeed 3" exhaust (no cat) on my son's 951 and it really woke it up. Smile
