I have about five track days on my new Cayman S and as it worked out, most of them have been on NJMP's Thunderbolt. The tires are pretty chewed up at only 4000 miles. They are still usable but I won't get 10,000 miles out of them. The tires are Pirelli P-Zero summer tires and I like them a lot.

The last two times on Thunderbolt I noticed that the tires really scrub on the turns coming out of the octopus and going into the front straight. I wonder if I am doing something wrong though I can't see a way of not chewing the tires on those turns.

I am fairly new and have just starting driving solo so I know there is much more to learn. Also I have read posts that say you don't wear out tires if you know how to drive. I can't see it on this track I also know I will get smoother and faster with seat time.

I would like to hear what others on this forum have to say.

The Cayman needs more front negative camber to minimize front tire wear. The amount of adjustment available on the standard suspension is not enough but get an alignment and maximize front negative camber. Usually this will not exceed -1 degree. Do a search on Planet 9 and the Cayman Register, there is a ton of information on this topic. I have written an Article on the Cayman Register on Cayman Suspension Modifications.

Thanks,

If you add negative camber is the car still streetable. I don't know much about front end alignment.

Take a look at the Wheel Alignment article in the May/June 2009 Der Gasser for on this website.
