After previous battery checked out as defective (was overheating and emitting odor into the car), installed a new battery.  New battery becomes VERY hot during driving and imits odors into car as well.........................

Suggestions?   Thank you!

let's start with the basics - model, year, mods, etc.

also, if the battery requires venting, it is properly setup?

Thanks Steve - I'm the non-mechanical party/co-owner of the car who can type better than my other half who is currently not here.  We've had the car for over 3 years, it turned to 40,000 today and this is the first time we are experiencing this.  It's a 1988, 911.  I want to assume there have been no mods.   How would we know if the battery is to require venting?
