I actually saw a small deer cross the track about 250' ahead of me as I was going down the main straight at Summit Point in August.  Good thing the Deer Caution Flag was out and I was looking out for them.  Problem with deer is... if you see one, then there are probably more nearby.

I get to carry a track radio as CI.  You really don't want to know how many times the corner workers noticed deer around the track.

Brian, you think a few less mph is really going to make a difference Smile

Brian, during the last session we had in August there was a groundhog at outside T6 looking longingly across the track at the inside of the turn. It was there for three of my laps. Do you think it was looking for your red car to make a dash across the track?

If they jump out in front of you, 20 mph probably doesn't make a difference to avoidance.  If you go faster, however, less chance they will run into the side Smile

Personally Brian, I think you need a cow catcher on the front of your car so that you can drive with confidence.

As I said this is a phobia I have.  Two wildlife adventures in one year has made me a little phobic about bigger species. Yes I am still able to laugh about it but seeing them besides the track on several laps and even seeing them bouncing across the track on one lap did nothing to help me with my phobia.  I did however keep the throttle down and said a little prayer.  Darren is problably correct that what ever additional speed I would gain going into 5th will not make much difference in an impact with a deer but having deer living in the infield at summit does feed my phobia.

Deer are like Police officers; where there is one, there is more lurking nearby.

Sorry it took me so long to thank all of you. The was me in the yellow Corvette. I truly appreciate the invite. It was wonderful running with you and meeting you. Coming from the "darkside" I expected a bit of a hard time. But it was just the opposite, just a bunch of fun people who enjoy tracking their cars. This was a very well run event with a lot of very fine, respectful and safe drivers-I couldn't ask for more.

Thanks again I hope it to see you at the track soon.

Geoff
