HPDE, leave ESC on or off? Objective - become a better driver

With all the talk about Toyota/Lexus GX460 ESC, I wonder if it is better to leave ESC on or off in track driving.  My car doesn't have it, so the issue never came up.  My question is in general, not specific to P cars.  What is better to learn on? 

My first reaction was off would be a better learning tool.  But, I am not so sure.  After all, we drive cars with ESC on in the street.  I was talking once to an instructor, who had driven a student's Corvette ZR1 at the track.  He said the car was a handful to handle with the ESC off.  Let us hear your take.  On or off for better learning?

We encourage students to leave stability management on.  It becomes optional when the skill level increases and the use of performance items such as  r compound/ racing slicks is added.

Agreed.  That should not be turned off until you are extremely proficient with your car.  It's not just a matter of run group advancement, but also in combination with a long familiarization with the particular car you are running, too.

Good topic.  In my more limited experience, I agree with the above comments.  Some other considerations are that most newer cars have had significant HP gains, increasing the chances of a mishap with novice drivers.  Also, plenty of vehicles have staged ESC settings, allowing a progressive increase in thresholds.  Finally, ESC etc. can be used as a learning tool, provided the driver is cognizant of when it engages.

My stability managment has a track setting; although, my first track experience with this car will be at the end of this month.
