I have a 92 325ic (E30, M20 engine). Although my skills are lacking, even for me the car is too slow. It was suggested to me to replace the air filter, get a performance exhaust, performance chip and add a limited slip. I was thinking also of a different steering wheel. It's an automatic. I autocross maybe 5x per year.

Try a K & N drop in air filter, and then look for a Jim Conforti chip.

I also had an e30 Cab and these mods gave the engine a bit more kick.

In decending order of importance:

1) Anti-sway bars, preferrably adjustable.  You can easily change these yourself.

2) Shocks & "lower" springs.  Bilstein PSS9 or PSS10 if you want to splurge and have adjustable ride heights.

3) Better, wider, and lower profile tires.

4) +1" wheel diameter.

Performance mod.'s are always fun. You should have an instructor drive your car. They might have some upgrade paths and may show you if you're wringing all the existing performance out of your car.

PS I want more power too!

Seat time. the only thing you need to work on is the nut behind the wheel. then after you wear out your street tires, get Dunlop durezas Z1 all around. Then another year of AX. Talk to me afterwards.
