Harness Mounting Points

I'm helping a buddy set-up a 944S2 for the track ( It's still primarily a street car).  The seat belts attach to the seat frame.  I have SRDs with substrap hole going in and Paragon sells seat brakets that have a harness attachment point on the bracket.  Is that reassonable or do I need to mount it into the tunnel?

Good morning Jeff, To answer your quesion, No.  PCA rules state that harnesses cannot be mounted to seat or seat rail.  Mounting must be to the chassis and backed by large diameter washers or to the roll bar.  No two harness straps may be attached to a single mounting bolt.

The harness/seat/mounting topic is incredibly complicated.  For example, Schroth has a 73 page guide titled "Installation & Operating Instructions for Racing Harnesses". 

I'm not discounting the knowledge of the folks in this Forum, but I would strongly recommend getting some "expert" advise on this.  An inappropriately mounted seat / harness combo can be less safe than a standard 3 point lap belt.  Safety is not an area to "roll your own."

Just a question about the SRD seats.  Since these seats do not have a guide for the lap belts, are they approved for use in DE?

Al,

Yes they are acceptable as long as they have the sub hole.  The DE standard has been modified to accept sport seats of this type.

You really need to take the time to understand how the whole SYSTEM works. If you do, you start to understand how interrelated and complicated all of this stuff is and how much you don't know!
