this is the Friday race from last weekend's Jefferson 500 vintage races, Group 2 Big Bore. the Jefferson 500 is one of the big vintage race weekends that happens every year; takes place at Summit Point on the Main Circuit. I was driving my Lotus Super Seven, and choose to run it in Group 2, as I find the competition the most fierce (my Seven has a Ford 1600 crossflow engine in it, making about 150 hp at the flywheel. I tend to have some issues on the straightaways, but can hold my own pretty well on the twisties).
the weather was perfect; the track was fast. from the start it was immediately a tough battle with about 7 cars, running in a tight pack (very diverse cars -- me, a Ginetta G4, a 911, an XKE, a GT40, a Shelby GT350, and a Dekon Monza). the race is cut short and red-flagged when the Dekon Monza (incredibly fast car) loses it in T1/T2 and is hit very hard by the #70 Shelby GT350 (a very fast real GT350). both cars were unfortunately heavily damaged the driver of the Shelby GT350 was not injured; the driver of the Monza had broken ribs and a punctured lung (he's going to be ok).
I had camera issues on saturday and sunday's races (had to cover the camera with a plastic bag due to threatening weather, and it didn't like that very much; didn't get any decent footage in any of the other races).
I just love racing with the vintage cars; so much diversity and the cars look and sound beautiful! so different from the modern racing that I do with the Probe and the Civic.
