996 Upgrades

I think the hybrid ones are the way to go. I had to unhook my stock mounts while doing my coolant bottle, and its easy, you put a jack under the rear of the motor, remove the 2 19mm nuts from the bottom of the mount, lower the motor with the jack, and remove the 2 bolts from then engine compartment that hold each mount. Easy job.

The vibration/load has to go somewhere when you do this, but it has to be better than the motor wiggling around. I think the GT3 has stiffer mounts already, I'll have to look on the PET.

Steve, I would stop working on the upgrades after that and have someone drive your car and data log a lap or two for a marker on what to work on.  Other option is to get some coaching.  I guarantee some observation and positive feedback will improve your driving more than anything at this point and time.  Ask Chris if he thinks the money spent on parts out performed him getting a little more track feedback from some instructors.

Bob, I understand your points.  I generally have at least one instructor (in addition to the white blitz) ride with me each event and have gotten good feedback on things.

As for upgrades, the suspension was the primary change that needed to be made.  I have been running with stock suspension.  On the 996's that means that you have very little adjustment available for camber, mixed with quite a bit of roll.  You start to burn the outside of the tires before the middle and inside get much wear.

The issue of rotors is that the 996's tend to spider crack very easily and was looking to see if there were any simple changes.  The other items were looking to see if there was anything else that "needed" to be done at this time.  I've come to the same conclusion that I really don't need to change anything else, but it never hurts to gameplan on things that should be changed over the next few years.

I was able to finally get the suspension changed before the Potomac event at The Glen a few weeks ago.  It really made the car feel much more planted, especially in the bus stop and T11.  I'll see over the next few events if we've added enough camber - it is still a street car, though.
