Make –a- Wish Foundation                                                                   March 2007

Riesentoter Porsche Club

To All Who made this possible,

Our family wishes to express our gratitude for granting our son’s Make-A-Wish basketball court. Our backyard looks great and words cannot express how much Michael is enjoying his new court.

8 years ago, Michael, who is now twelve, small intestines twisted due to an undiagnosed birth defect. This caused his entire bowel to die and left him fighting for his life due to extreme Sepsis.  Due to a miracle and a long recovery, he survived but left him with a condition called Short Bowel Syndrome. Since he has no remaining intestines to absorb any food, he is hooked up to an IV through a catheter in his chest for 10 hours each day. He is currently listed as non-urgent for a small bowel transplant at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington and spends a lot of time at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  Despite all this, he is doing remarkably well and is very happy and passionate about life.

Michael thought carefully for quite some time about what he wanted to wish for. Basketball is his favorite sport and he had nowhere to play except a sloped driveway at our home.   ]He is unable to play anymore on an organized league so this is perfect for him to be able to play whenever he can. This wish will give him many, many years of happiness.  As I look out my kitchen window on most days, I wish that all of you could see how happy he looks when he is playing on his court.  We now have a very popular backyard with the neighbor hood kids.  Its so much fun to watch them play.

Michael’s illness has dramatically impacted our lives on a daily basis and changed our lives emotionally, physically and financially.  However, through it all we have had some WONDERFUL experiences that have made it bearable like having his Wish Granted and meeting people like you.   Michael’s life experience has made us even more thankful for what we do have and some day we hope that we can re-pay all who have helped us though these 8 years.  If you can please pass this letter to all involved so that they know we are thanking them from the bottom of our hearts.

 God Bless you all.

Sincerely,                                                                                                                              Allan, Cheryl, Amanda and Michael
