Zone 2 VIR 2008

As those who posted about VIR Zone 2 have already said it was a well run event and VIR is certainly on my favorites list as this was my 4th trip there.  I only hope that Thunderbolt and Lightening at NJMP are half the fun and challenge.  I accomplished my personal goals and feel very comfortable with the new car. Can't wait for Shenandoah.

Very smooth driving. Looks like you are learning the right things! Noticed you edited out any one passing you.

We've heard from the Green group (nice driving Glen) so let's see something from the Red run group.

The video and the dash get a little out of sync by the end of the video.  Jumping the curbs seems to make my camera skip a little.

I only made one edit....  I couldn't stand the ridicule you guys would have thrown at me if I showed the grey Evo blow by me at the end of the session.  You see me give the point-by and wave to him at the very end of the tape on the back straight. Otherwise, no passes on that session (and asside from Adam's WRX, I was the most underpowered car in my run group). 

I held the Evo off for about 1 lap and it made me 2 seconds faster (around 2:28) while I was consistently running 2:30 to 2:32 previously depending on traffic.  And for the instructors, I wasn't timing my laps in the car... I timed the laps from the video .

My Green Student was driving a 96' 993 set up very much like yours. He was turning 2:35 to 2:39. Yes he had a hot lap timer in the car and had it turned on. He also started on Pirelli Slicks on Friday and I made him put the street tires back on after that 1st session. Just a bit over equipped for a green driver. He was also a VIR Club Member and had run previously in their open track days. He was really rough when we started but by the end of the event he was smooth and I had him solo. Actually he was an excellent student and was very successful at resolving the bad things he was doing. Even at 2:35 he was passing a lot of the Green Group so your lap times show that you are doing great as a green student. With driving like that it will not be long before you move to Blue.

Since you brought up the touchy DE subject of lap times I was turning 2:19's on the average lap without traffic and had a best lap of 2:17:36 during the combined Red Black run group on Sunday afternoon. I shot a video when you where out with me so I will get that posted sometime soon. I only did video of that one session.

A couple of folks have sent me private msgs suggesting ways to improve. Thank you!!! However, you don't need to do this in private. You're not going to hurt my feelings - I know I have a lot to learn about VIR!!

I posted this video to prompt discussion as I would LOVE feedback from more experienced VIR'ers! I think others on the forum would benefit as well. So, don't be shy! Let the comments fly

 Glad to see everyone had a good time.  It is my # 1 favorite track as it provides all the challenges you could ask for.   It's amazing how quickly you forget the length of the drive to get there and can't wait to return.

For future thought I am told that Mosport and Mt. Tremblat are in the same league.  Find those passports.

Have you been to Mid-Ohio?

I also like Mid Ohio. It is different though.  The most technical track east of the mississippi.  The infield sections are series of tightly designed right, left rights or visa-versa, going up or down hill, blind and off camber.  They flow very well.  The pit straight turn is high speed and the chiccane on the front straight is a nice addition. It is a must on your driving list.
