Thanks for the picture link. I didn't know.

SCCA allows passengers under the age of 16. My 11 year son and P-car fanatic accompanied me. He said "It's a lot different being in the car than watching".

You know, finger wagging never worked as a kid and still doesn't work now. Smile

I'll repeat, if the course were a challenge in terms of car handling, them I wouldn't have driven one handed without realizing it.

the course wasn't a challenge - I rode with Ken and his times were competitive in the pro class and I can assure you that he was working hard and had no time to drive one handed. He actually caught the car ahead of him.

SCCA's courses seem to be a blend of speed and handling. That course was a 2nd gear course and drive. If you were one-handing it, you need to work on using the pedal on the right (aka - the go-fast pedal). Big Grin

Although I didn't drive the course, I did walk it with the novice group. It was straight-forward until you applied speed. Then it became a different ballgame. And, from the AX tracks that I've seen, they do tend to favor higher speed handling.

As for stone chips, they can happen in your driveway. I push my car, but also take car of it and keep it clean. If chips are a concern, then I'd recommend the 3M clear bra or a similar product that John Heckman is carrying at Holbert's.

I went to both the novice skool and autoX and had a great time at both

Novice skool - In my view a bargain for $125 = Friday night classroom, all day instruction on sat and free entry Sunday.

4 courses -

circuit with increasing and decreasing radius corners - learn about late and early apexing

house - with 360 turn on corner of roof - learn to look ahead and faster if wait

slalom - small gaps and big gaps -- just didn't get this - told to turn earlier but struggled

skid pan - round and round until puke

Leant alot about the theory, the car and myself - throughly recommended for newbies like me - even just because got so much seat time (compared to only 3 runs on Sunday - more on that later). Would like to suggest that we contact SCCA to ask them if they will run a course for RTR - only need 20 people to run. Many thanks to Elizabeth for giving me the details.

Sunday AutoX - I arrived late and only had time to do novice walk through but i purposely marshalled heat 1 so I could learn course - as a result, I didn't go off course.

Quickly looking at times, my fastest time was 67.65 in run 2 - which i do believe was actually the second best novice time, although they seem to work ratings out on time in bold below - but not sure where this came from.

     TIMES: 1) 72.917 2) 67.650 3) 68.991( 1)

Run 1 and run 2 were clean but finally on run 3, I was pushing hard enough to finally hit a cone -- typically it was the last cone.

Compared to RTR autoX, much longer and faster but many more people and only 3 runs - long time there for only 3 runs. Best compromise would be to run small RTR autoX there to get our 6 usual runs but on faster longer course - however cones marshals will be pooped running around on big course with small number of people - suggest hire people from McDonalds for the day at $5 each.

can't find any photos of me - car 102 -- but did hire a helmet bullet cam so have 2 exterior runs from top of car and 1 interior on side of helmet - very high quality video so unable to post as videos are > 100mb each - will ask WellardMac to work his magic and see how turns out

The bold time is what is called a PAX time. This is a multiplier that is used to equal times for all cars based on HP, weight and modifications.

The results sheet shows all the paricipants times sorted by PAX if you want to see how competitive you are against the entire group. I prefer raw times by class as long as there are a few cars in your class to compete with.
1995 993 - Track car
1994 965 - Race car
2002 Boxster - Her car but I get to drive it
2008 Cayenne S - Her daily driver
2006 Ford F-250 crew cab diesel - Porsche Suppport Vehicle & Tow truck

Well..... no

Nothing against Ken, he did a good job. We all just have a different perspective on this, and there's nothing wrong with that. Where I have come from, competitive is judged in tenths and hundred's of a second [Image: thumbup.gif]

Easy on the BMW Drivers thing Smile I was there and only hit one cone the whole day with six runs. There were plenty of other people there that drove a little on the edge, but that's what makes an autocross fun. I don't think we can chalk it up to BMW drivers!

This was my first AutoX and I was able to reel in a mug from SCCA. I think I will at least do the Warminster AutoX's next summer and maybe think about some others.

Warminster is nice because it's only ten minutes from my house. I hope that SCCA continues to do some of their events there.

Here are my times:

Okay, let's say that we narrow it down to drivers of black BMWs. Smile
