My self assessment:  need to stop shuffle-steering.  Need to look down the track and anticipate more (closed in on two cars too quickly at the apex of turn 2 near the end of the session).  Need to grow a pair and brake less into turn 1 and get more aggressive with the throttle.  Need to downshift to second for turn 3 (worked well on Sunday).  Need to start getting on the throttle a bit earlier at just about every corner.  No LSD in my car... got some inside wheel spin out of turn 5.  Thinking that maybe it's time to get LSD. Thoughts on Quiafe vs Guard vs PMS?

Nice Glen! Actually your shuffle steering is much much less than before, obviously something you are successfully working on!  I don't shuffle steer unless I have to.  To me, if you can make the turn without moving your hands, then why do so?

Hold off on the LSD   IMHO, without it you will be forced to manage the weight transfer better.  And weight transfer is where it's at!

The honest truth is that in DE, in the less-than-black level, you can always do more in skill than you can with your car.  Your car the way it is will support you until you get to black.  Until then...work on the nut behind the wheel   You can spend the same money on more events.

Darren, that was very nicely put. Something I try to keep in the back of my mind everytime I want to do some sort of upgrade on my car. "Save the money for more track time" Words to live by, I like that!!

i'll also add:  'try to go out on the track when it is raining'.   i'm not talking about 'banzai'ing' around, like some folks (  );  i'm talking about going out when it is raining (friday, anyone?  and later on sunday?), and practicing your skills.  my first timer, green student, improved more on sunday after lunch during the rainy time, then in all the other previous dry rungroups combined!

he had a chance to really feel how important it was to be 'gentle' with the controls -- especially the brake application and steering inputs.  it was immediately apparent to him when he was too rough, or jerky;  the rainy conditions amplified the car's response....

most will tell you, i always go out in the rain, every chance i get;  i find that it really 'tunes me up' for when it is dry!  it enhances skills and really reinforces the principles of performance driving....   i'd have been out in every single rungroup on friday, if it weren't for the fact that i burned up my street pads in the first hour and 20 mins!

i'll second (or third?) darren's response -- squirel away the LSD money for later;  instead, concentrate on attending as many events as you can, and go out in every run session that you can!  ride along with other more experienced folks, and absorb as much info as possible!!!

It's suprising how much the rain magnifies errors that are really hard to see in the dry.

As an example, I was riding with a friend of mine at a NASA event at VIR in his modified RX7 a month or so ago.  It was damp out and we were going very very slowly.  We get to turn 4 and he gets on the power just a hair too early before the wheel was straight, and we spun at about 20 mph.  It was so rediculously slow, but that experience was clear indication of his bad habit of not straightening the wheel enough before getting on the power.

His error in techinique would be much more difficult, if not impossible, to learn in the dry!
