31MAR09 - UPDATES SHOWN IN GREEN
au·to·cross (ô't?-krôs', -kr?s') n. - A form of motor sport that emphasizes safe, low-cost competition and active participation. An autocross is a timed competition where drivers navigate one at a time through a temporary course marked by traffic cones. Autocross tends to place more emphasis on car handling and driver skill than on sheer horsepower.
WELCOME TO RTR AUTOCROSS in 2009[/b]
Your AX sub-committee have been working hard behind the scenes and we are now ready to make the following 6 announcements:
1) We are delighted to confirm that SPECIALTY CARS of Allentown[/b] have come back on board for the third year running as the official sponsors of the 2009 RTR AutoX+ Roadshow Series. The owner, Mark Burkit, has been working on Porsche cars for 29 years, and has built SCCA National XP Class Autocross Champion Dave Newman’s 911 from the ground up. Their shop does everything from PA state inspections, brakes, suspension and oil changes to full restorations and track preparation. They also have customers who race in the HSR series. Please thank Mark for his continued support and kind sponsorship of our Roadshow series by using their shop whenever possible and by visiting their website site http://www.specialtycarsservicecenter.com
2) The 2009 season will kick off on Saturday 18th April at Specialty Cars in Allentown with an classroom session entitled “Driver and Car preparation for autocross and track days’? by national AX champion Dave Newman and Mark Burkit, Owner and chief mechanic at Specialty Cars.
Following on from last years successful classroom session on the fundamentals of AX, in a 2 part lecture, Dave will talk to us about how drivers should prepare themselves for high speed driving events and the Mark will put a car up on a lift to demonstrate what you can and should do to prepare your car before competing in such events. This years classroom session is sure to be of great interest and very useful to anyone interested in AX and/or DE in 2009 whether you are a novice yet to compete in your first event or a seasoned veteran including those RTR members who attended last year. Whether or not you attend last years lecture, we look forward to seeing you this year!
Details & directions: The classroom session will start at 11am prompt on Sat 18[suP]th[/suP] April at Specialty Cars, 804 North Gilmore Street, Allentown, PA 18109-1812, Phone: 610-437-9333 and lunch will be provided! IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND, PLEASE ADD A POST TO THE FORUM OR EMAIL stevemcmorn@hotmail.com so we can plan for lunch time
3) Following on from the classroom session, attendees will then have an opportunity to put theory into practice the following week, as the first AX of the year will be held at Hershey with Central PCA on Sunday 26th April (the day after the swap meet). As always, we will post final plans and directions on the forum about 2 weeks before the event. Central always put on a great AX so we think this will be a great start to our 2009 AX racing season and we hope you will be able to join us, so book the dates in your calendar now.
4) In 2009, we will continue with the successful AutoX+ Roadshow & Championship. The Roadshow is a ‘just for fun’ series for any RTR members interested in attending more local AX events. In addition to holding our own RTR Planes and Porsches Charity AX (see below), we will aim to attend 5 or 6 local PCA & SCCA events over the summer months. For those who would like to compete in our Championship, points will be awarded according to final finishing position, based on a PAX-scoring system designed to even out the performance of different types of cars.
The 2009 Schedule is now confirmed as:[/b]
1) Saturday 18 APRIL 09 Classroom session: “How to prepare Car and Driver for High Performance Driving? Specialty Cars, Allentown - 11am[/i]
2) Sunday 26 APRIL 09 AX – Central PCA at Hershey
3) Sunday 24 MAY 09 AX – Philly SCCA at Citizens bank park

5) 2009 RTR ‘Planes and Porsches’ Charity AX is a GO! [/b]In 2008, the first ever RTR ‘Planes and Porsches’ Charity AX was a great success and we donated over $5000 to the Philadelphia ALS (aka Lou Gehrigs disease) society on behalf of our friend and RTR member, Bob Wilderman. In 2009, Millennium Aviation at Reading Airport have kindly offered to host our event again on (new date) SUNDAY 12[suP]th[/suP] July so SAVE THE DATE NOW
In 2009, we aim to build on the success of 2008 and improve our event by:
(i) increasing entries from 50 to 60 cars
(ii)increasing gold passes (i.e. no work assignment) from 10 to 20
(iii) design course so 2 cars on course at once
(iv) better food to be included in the entry fee - which should, once again, be considered tax deductible
(v) more historic cars in the aircraft hangar
(vi) more vendors in the aircraft hangar
Registration will once again be via motorsportsreg.com, which we expect will open on 1st MAY (ish) so if you haven't got an account set up yet, now's the time
6) Finally, I am pleased to announce that Vee has agreed to continue serving on our AX subcommittee and AX Newbie, Mike Kling will join the team – Thanks Guys!
If you have any questions, please feel free to email Steve at stevemcmorn@hotmail.com or join the Riesentöter PCA Forum and add a post to the Autocross section http://rtr.mywowbb.com/forum3/
