There are still openings available for our Advanced Driver's Education event at NJMP Thunderbolt course to be held on Wednesday, July 15, 2009.

This is an opportunity for a ton of track time at a great price ($175). Essentially, the track will be hot all day long with a one-hour break for lunch. Driver's will be assigned to one of two run groups based on skill level and vehicle (similar to Cups & Saucers format). Each group will get five 45-minute sessions.

Registration is via motorsportreg.com and is limited to advanced/solo drivers. Follow this link:

Email me with questions: track@rtr-pca.org

Thanks,
Myles

I'd go but it is opening day for the new Harry Potter movie.   Priorities...

Just curious - are we running with or without chicanes?

I was thinking that we would run with the chicanes.

Did you have a preference?

Haven't run the track with them yet, so I'd be game to try something different.

Both chicanes or just the back one as they did in the Rolex? Cars coming out of the pits could make the first chicane a bit difficult at turn in if there is slow traffic that just came out of the pits.

Yes, just the back chicane, like the Rolex race.

If the group does not like the chicane layout we could always change the track configuration after lunch.  I have not done it with the chicane but a few friends that have say it is easy to spin or drop wheels off if you carry to much speed into it.  I love a good challenge. Cool

True, but is that not the nature of a chicane?

Having run it with and without, I have to say I like it better without simply because of the obvious -- its faster.  That being said, I think there is certainly some educational value to running with it because it does take some restraint to get through it quickly and without excess drama.   Drivers may be surprised at exactly how much they will need to slow for the entry turn to avoid blowing the second and third.  It is really easy to overcook it.
