Western civilization (and probably Eastern as well) has a long history of blood sports, including bull baiting, bear baiting, cock fighting, dog fighting and God knows what else. And lots of gratuitous cruelty as well. And maybe Vick grew up in a culture where these things were approved. So what? He grew up, became a man, became a star, made lots of money and controlled his own life. I could accept a continued fascination with blood sports, but I can't accept or forgive his evident lust for inflicting mortal agony on helpless creatures whose only desire was to please him. Hanging? Electrocution? Killing dogs with his own hands because they hadn't fought well? For six years? And now he's past all of that? This guy doesn't deserve another chance to be a celebrity, although he does deserve another chance to become a human being. I see little difference between his behavior and that of a concentration camp guard who shoots and tortures the "sub-humans" under his control for his own amusement, just because he can.

And as a further note, yes, we Americans like dogs, but I am getting fed up with folks that will go to great lengths to espouse that a dogs life is worth all the trouble in the world, yet these same great "humanitarians", daily turn their backs on the sufferings of their fellow human beings.  "Public Health insurance?, No Way, that would be socialist".  "Help a poor person to get a leg up to provide for his family?, Hell no, this is a capitalist society, he should pull himself up by his boot straps". 

Great, let's save a dog while hundreds of thousands of people go hungry, or die from curable ailments in this good old USA.

Is the reasoning behind this really a mystery to you? Regardless of the different positions as to this issue, I think everybody recognizes that those who are pro-choice do not believe that life begins at conception. I imagine that is why they might speak up in opposition to dog fighting, dog electrocuting, and dog hanging, while not voicing an opinion against abortion.

It has always amazes me how advocates on both sides of the abortion issue fail to consider the simple rationale behind the oppsositons respective positions.
