There are posts out there asking  what Porsche you drive today and others are discussing the advances in vehicle technology. Were they really the good old days when we fossils learnt to drive? For me, in terms of driving experience, absolutely!

So what was your first car or was it a motorbike, I am sure there are some entertaining tales out there?

1. Datsun 2000 Fairlady...better know as the parts dispenser because things fell off the car so often.  They also copied every mistake made by the British.

2. Traded 2000 for a Datsun 240Z.. a great and fun car.

3. Sold 240 and bought Austin Healey 3000 MK III.  My dream car I thought.

3.  Had a ride in a friends 911 and immediately put the Healey up for sale and bought my first Porsche...There has been no turning back ever since.

My 1st car was a 1971 Camaro, Blue, 289ci, 3 speed on the floor.  Combine that car, no snow tires, & upstate NY and you get drifting before drifting was drifting  Big Grin

1980 Camaro Rallaye Sport.  Two tone blue, t-top, pinstriped and chrome wheels.   A 305cid V-8, 4bbl carb. with 140HP  and 8mpg.  Quite an efficient engine.  They used to call me Ricky the Disco King back then.

Well John - you lose the BET! (good thing you stole the money from Dave after he won the 50/50).

My first car that I (wife and I) bought was a Brand New 914-2.0 in March 1974. Had it for 6 years, Autocrossed it. Finally, in 1980, with #2 baby on the way, we parted with it. Wife promised that it would be replaced. Took till #2 baby graduated College in '03 to keep the promise.Big Grin

The car I learned to drive in was a Renault LeCar. I remember reading Paul Frere's Sports Car and Competition Driving when I was 16, then going out and teaching myself to heel-toe downshift by driving the same corner about 50 times one Saturday.

Of course in a LeCar, it didn't matter what gear you were in, but that's besides the point. Big Grin

Wheel Horse riding mower. Top speed was about 3 mph....our goat was faster....did a mean burnout on wet grass, though.   [Image: 4_17_206.gif]

125cc AMF Harley and then a 68 Nova with a 307 and 2 speed automatic.......the goat had a hard time keeping up.  Cool

A 79 Buick Riviera - It was a stunning burnt orange with plush velour seating, hand painted pimp stripes, wire hub caps, white walls and a back seat the size of a queen bed.
