Thanks a million for all of the help.

I ended up purchasing the One-of-a-Kind Porsche garage sign that Tony found on ebay.  Then I had a 6' Porsche Crest hand painted below it.

ps  I finished the epoxy floor yesterday.

Nick:

Awesome garage!!!!  Where can I get a "Hippies Use Back Door" sign?  My ultra conservative worldview dictates the use of one in my home. Big Grin

Thanks, Chris.  It was a lot of work but I love it.

The Hippie sign came from Michael's Craft.  It's made of metal.

Now give us the real deal.  How hard was the epoxy floor to put down?

By the way, your 930 has not looked that good in all the time I have known you.

Hey Nick,

I was about to direct you to my cousin, but see you already resolved this. He can make anything like this for you, and does a lot of custom work. He's done the cars of many PCA members (mostly in NNJR), and has done the magnetic numbers, and the "Carrera" and stripe vinyl on my car. He also does helmets. You can check out his website at www.idsigns.com. Tell him I referred you (but he may then charge you more!).

BTW, I've been missing the track this year, and and have been experiencing track-withdrawl symptoms. But, I did manage to get registered for the Watkins Glen event, and I'm looking forward to it! I hope to see you there.

Cheers,

Vidal

I have never seen my 930 look this good.  It's amazing what:
  • 8 hrs of research [/*]
  • $100 in detailing products [/*]
  • $27.99 buffer (Harbor Freight RULES!) [/*]
  • 16 hrs of manual labor
can do.

As for Epoxy, there are 5 easy steps
[/*]
  1. Follow directions - timing is everything [/*]
  2. Get your floor clean enough to eat off and then clean it again. [/*]
  3. Be a Man and etch it with Hydrochloric Acid even though its recommended for professional use only. (I'm sure the Jack Ass guys from West Chester ignore the warning labels too!) [/*]
  4. Put the same amount of paint down with each stroke.  A Thin coat looks way different than a thick coat. - A lesson learned [/*]
  5. If you get paint were it doesn't belong, wash it off immediately or wait a day and use a grinder![/*]
I never used Epoxy paint before and I know my next floor will come out better.  My $300 project has about as many imperfections as my friends $3,000 professional job.

I've received a few messages and emails about the epoxy floor so here's what's involved:

I chose epoxy because it is stain resistant. I can weld over it, roll a jack over it and if I change my mind in the future I can cover it with one of the alternative coverings that I was considering. Epoxy won't chip but it will delaminate if the floor is not prepared correctly.  I'm sure correctly applied epoxy out lasts the alternatives. There are softer, prettier floors but I needed a functional industrial strength covering.

I covered a 20' x 25' area with 10 hours work over 3 days.

Day 1
  • Get my stuff out of the garage. - 2hrs [/*]
  • Scrub and power wash the floor. - 2hrs [/*]
  • When dry, fill the cracks with caulk. - 2hrs

Day 2[/*]
  • Mix and apply 2 gallons of epoxy, add flakes for coloration - 2 hrs

Day 3[/*]
  • Apply clear coat in the morning. - 1hr [/*]
  • Apply second clear coat in the evening. - 1hr

Day 4[/*]
  • Drive car into garage.[/*]
