Brake pad and Brake Fluid Clinic

I've heard it's sooooo eeeeeezy to change the brake pads and brake fluid.......... but, I need to be walked through it first.  I'd love learn to do this on the 987 and 997's.  I'm not a mechanic, but somewhat mechanically inclined.

Are there any "clinics" or other events for this & related sort of things?

Hi George,

Just for your info come to any tech session and you can learn to do all sorts of things to your car. We have one this Sat. at Dougherty's in West Chester.  There will be lots of fluid and pad changes and other maintanence going on that you can help with. A great way to learn.

We're doing 996 pads and rotors on Friday night starting at 6pm at my place in Center Valley.  If you want to stop by, just let me know.

George, I just found out tonight that you can change fluid without removing 19" Carrera S, lobster crawl, wheels.  

Yes, I was lazy as the rear of the car was on jack stands and it was a little difficult to reach the inside bleeder on the fronts, but I think with short wrench and some practice, this could be perfected.

You just don't want to get a drop of that brake fluid on anything painted including your wheels.  I guarantee if that happens, it will ruin your day, week, month and maybe even year.

If you clean it off right away it shouldn't be an issue.  If you let it sit though, then you have serious problems.  Always make sure to have a can of brake cleaner around when you are doing this stuff.

That's great if you can do it with the wheels on the car -- I can do this on my Acura and it's a huge time saver especially at the track.

If you are working at an awkward angle, be extra sure to tighten the bleeder up enough.
