I went to both the novice skool and autoX and had a great time at both
Novice skool - In my view a bargain for $125 = Friday night classroom, all day instruction on sat and free entry Sunday.
4 courses -
circuit with increasing and decreasing radius corners - learn about late and early apexing
house - with 360 turn on corner of roof - learn to look ahead and faster if wait
slalom - small gaps and big gaps -- just didn't get this - told to turn earlier but struggled
skid pan - round and round until puke
Leant alot about the theory, the car and myself - throughly recommended for newbies like me - even just because got so much seat time (compared to only 3 runs on Sunday - more on that later). Would like to suggest that we contact SCCA to ask them if they will run a course for RTR - only need 20 people to run. Many thanks to Elizabeth for giving me the details.
Sunday AutoX - I arrived late and only had time to do novice walk through but i purposely marshalled heat 1 so I could learn course - as a result, I didn't go off course.
Quickly looking at times, my fastest time was 67.65 in run 2 - which i do believe was actually the second best novice time, although they seem to work ratings out on time in bold below - but not sure where this came from.
8. 102/SS STEVE MCMORN > 56.826 <
TIMES: 1) 72.917 2) 67.650 3) 68.991( 1)
Run 1 and run 2 were clean but finally on run 3, I was pushing hard enough to finally hit a cone -- typically it was the last cone.
Compared to RTR autoX, much longer and faster but many more people and only 3 runs - long time there for only 3 runs. Best compromise would be to run small RTR autoX there to get our 6 usual runs but on faster longer course - however cones marshals will be pooped running around on big course with small number of people - suggest hire people from McDonalds for the day at $5 each.
can't find any photos of me - car 102 -- but did hire a helmet bullet cam so have 2 exterior runs from top of car and 1 interior on side of helmet - very high quality video so unable to post as videos are > 100mb each - will ask WellardMac to work his magic and see how turns out
