ha ha!
i like to think of the ole Probestien as 'war weary' with a certain 'strength of character'. as Indianna Jones once said -- 'it ain't the years; it's the mileage!'
a race VW VR6 sounds pretty damn good; a kinda deeper, more melodious sound; awesome sounding machine! (i once had a red 95 GTi VR6).
but, the Probe is more of a menacing sort of high pitched shriek, especially if i am having to over-rev it and use 'war emergency' power!
here's a very short vid (poor quality, unfortunately) from years and years ago; its before i had developed my big brake kit (the stock Probe brakes would last about 5 laps racing, and then you checked into 'fade city'). i remember this race; i was trying to stay in front of a 944S (racing with EMRA). i was using 'war emergency' power in the straights, and the brake pedal was going to the floor every brakezone (we had about 4 laps to go!). i would stomp the brakes, and downshift to try to slow the car; the tach was pointing straight down (8500++) and if you listen, during that downshift, you'll hear the motor 'crackling' and the valves floating! it's a wonder that i didn't blow the motor during that race (i held on til the checker in front!). that next weekend, i started designing and building my BBK. and never looked back since!

now that is what i like to think of as 'good n loud'! i was really turning that motor! (i don't turn it like that anymore; now that the brakes work, i don't need to in order to slow it; and i fear winding it like that in 4th gear lap after lap in a 40 min race will cause its demise)
