Here's some clubs nearby that you can check out. Newbies are always welcome to these clubs. Don't get intimidated... we all have to start somewhere.

NNJR PCA has autocross events and they give away nice plaques and also they have a lot of car classes. I like collecting plaques from them although the drive going there is a little bit of a hike.

http://www.phillyscca.com/solo2/index.html, their next event is August 27th in Warminster, PA, very nice location, big lot, fast and good grip.
