The typical 944 belt service should include timing belt, water pump, thermostat, balance belts, and drive belts. The timing belt is the most crucial because if it breaks bad things happen to the motor. If I remember correctly (its been a while since a had a 944) the water pump should be replaced with a turbo water pump since the turbo pump is an updated design.

Vertex actually rents the tension tool.
