My guess is the car didn't burn to the ground although if it did track insurance will cover the car. Manufacturers warranty will cover the failure unless mods were done. That's how the pile of ashes would be made a whole car again.

Notwithstanding mods, will the manufactuer's warranty cover something like that even if it took place after the track and the on board computer shows numer hits at the rev limiter.
Aaron,

From what I have been told yes. As it has been explained to me by a representative with the warranty department at GM if no engine mods were done and the car is running a DOT tire even if it's at a track event as long is it's an untimed event and not W2W racing or time trials then the failures are covered. That's what makes that GM extended warranty so precious. For up to 100K unlike most other manufacturers GM backs their cars for DE track use. I have looked at this aspect carefully when I was considering one.

Bottom line is though it will be a slow and expensive car in comparison to an already completed Porsche race car with which if bought properly there will be hardly any depreciation. I would be looking hard for an already completed car if I were you. I personally would never look at a new car again. Get a car that's well sorted and cheap to run. Pump gas, no race gas. Make sure it has abs so you aren't flat spotting tires and use Pilot sport cups as while they are expensive they last forever.
