Toyota's current troubles were inevitable.  Toyota's reputation has been over-hyped for 20 years.  They enjoyed godlike status, much like Tiger Woods.    In reality, they are only slightly better than we mere mortals.  Now, both have been forced to admit that they are human, and the fall from such a high pedestal only appears to be disastrous.  It's not.  Things are simply evening out.
