Get on the Pelican Parts 911 Forum. There are a ton of threads dealing with the restoration of early 911s. Many have photos, and the front pan is a really popular project.

Please post some photos, as this really sounds like a neat project.

As for the welder, check on Craig's List. I know of a few folks that have bought them for a really good deal.
