Probably different drivers, different tracks, different cars (intercar variance)..
youtube video above shows Chris Harris doing comparos between a spec'd 981 S and a bare-bones 991 base. Bottom line between all the video and magazine comparos is that 981 S is now very comparable to 991 base in performance (at lower cost to boot). Why Porsche doesn't give the Boxster/Cayman similar power and suspension of 911 is another topic altogether.... BTW, I'm a mid-engine Porsche fan.
911 is an automotive icon and Porsche's flagship. But like I said, I'd only personally buy GT cars (e.g. GT3 RS... all in good time).
