Most aerobatic pilots do not wear helmets because of the enormous g forces they experience when making multiple changes in direction or altitude.  The military zoomies wear helmets with full face shields to protect them if they have to punch out.  Your propeller driven planes usually maneuver at 100 to 150 knots.  The zoomies maneuver at 350 to 550 knots.  That's a BIG difference in wind blast as you exit the plane.
