It is very strong and the manufacturer claims that it can hold upto 3lb in weight. It can mount onto any surface where you can get suction, so paintwork and roof is not a problem.
I was thinking of mounting it on the fender at some point.
My camcorder is around 4.5"x2' and the mount is in the middle of the camera, which means that mounting it on an angle is a problem. The little J bar that attaches to the suction cup and the mounting ball needs to be longer to mount the camera upright.
I can see 2 solutions.
i) mount the camera upside down (not a problem) and use software to rotate the image.
ii) rig/buy an adaptor that allows the camera to be mounted in a different position. I'm inclinded to rig something to allow the camera to be mounted differently.
I'm not convinced this is not do-able with the camcorder, but I'll need to rig an adaptor... some metal strip, a nut and a bold from home depot should do it.
