I just started testing with the free download version of GPS Performance for a Windows Mobile PDA Phone with a bluetooth GPS. So far it works great for 0-60 and 1/4 miles, Sunday will be my first Autocross with it at Hershey and I do not know when my next track day will be but I look forward to using it there. Considering I already had the phone (or PDA) and Bluetooth GPS it has not cost me a dime yet but I do plan on spending the $35 to buy it at:
Personally I think Lap timers are great even for beginners so that you can see how much your changes actually imrpvove your times but it should be something you look at after the sessions and not during so you are not distracted.

btw I am new to the boards I have a 2002 Boxster S Midnight blue that I bought back in January.
