Remember that the rules do change and new classes are introduced.
When I was upgrading my 944 (then an I car) I could upgrade the suspension and keep it in the same class. Then the 944 spec class was introduced the suspension upgrade bumped me to SP2, which my car would have not been competitive in. So, if I was to club race that car, I could run in the former I stock, in which the numbers are dwindling or revert to the stock suspension to be eligible for SP1.
