Steve,
Insurance for anything is a personal decision but I would not track a car I could not afford to wreck without track insurance. If you have a newer 911 I would highly recommend track insurance. It's cheaper then a divorce attorney.

I don't know of anyone offering insurance for one event. I have Proserve - Chris Maume, but another agent "Snellings Walters" also offers the same coverage from the insurer.
It is a 1 year policy, with unlimited DE days. Price is 3% ofcar value + $10 + GA. tax, and there is a deductable based on the value of the car. As Tony stated, can you afford to write off the car?

Quote:Who established value of the car?I do not have my policy in front of me but the value of the car is set by data that the insurance company has for each car. In my case for the 993 I had to send pictures and invoices of the modifications on the car and I got the value I requested after submitting my pitcures. Read the policy closely. It will not cover timed event or events on an oval (not roval) track. The coverage is for DE only and not club racing. It will cover an incident that occurs on the track. The car is also covered while on the track property for vandalism or accidents in the pits since most street insurance will no longer cover any claim within a racing facility grounds.

Tony is right, it's an actual cash value policy, just like your street policy, so it pays the lesser of market value or repair cost. It also does not cover racing--it must be a DE-like event (that definition is a bit loose) with corner workers.
You can read the form of the policy with my highlights of the more important bits here: http://members.rennlist.com/phokaioglauk...Policy.PDF
