Looking for a Cummins engine with an Allison transmission and the Ford integrated brake controller and other tow goodies.

Actually, I'm just looking for suggestions as to which dealers I should visit for test drives. Where are the dealers with the large truck inventories?

I was set on the Toyota Tundra with its high family acceptance value (everything is relative), but it doesn't ahve the payload I'd need for a 24' trailer. Here is my analysis:

The 24' trailer is 30" from coupler to bumper, so the 145.7" wheelbase of the Crewmax (4-door) Tundra is pretty good. The payload of the Tundra is 1,495 lbs., though. Assuming a tongue weight of 12% of trailer weight, a trailer of about 3,500 lbs. with a 3,100 lbs. car and maybe 500 lbs. of tools, cabinets, a/c, N2 tank and the like, the tongue weight should be 852 lbs., leaving only 643 lbs. for passengers (4 at 200 lbs./each will NOT work), fuel and anything in the bed of the pickup.

Said another way, if one were to really try to pull a trailer at the Tundra's limit of 10,100 lbs. with a 12% tongue weight of 1,212 (I pick 12% as half way between the 9% and 15% of most estimates of proper tongue weight), then there is only payload capacity of 293 lbs. left, just room for driver and one passenger, if that.

Hi Chris,
To check out Dodge, try Bergy's on Broad Street in Lansdale.  They have a large selection, reliable service and are willing to deal.Smile
Good luck in your search,
Wally

Chris,

When I was shopping Garnet Ford had a fairly large inventory.  That is who I purchased from.  Pacifico Marple Ford has a dedicated truck center with a huge inventroy but I could not find a truck equiped the way I wanted it at their truck center. I am sure the dealres around the airport auto mall also have substaincial inventory.  If you want to drive Dodge, Chevy/GMC and Ford without traveling all over then the Auto Mall would be an appropriate place to look.

Thanks, guys. This is helpful. I signed up at the Auto Show for a Ford test drive. When I do it before the end of March they give me $75!

In cash or do they knock $75 off a $35,000 truck?

$35,000? That'd be a steal!

It's a $75 MasterCard stored value card.

Surprisingly, the '08 Chevy Silverados are the best rated pick-ups in several categories including customer satisfaction and are #1 pick from several top automotive and consumer testing magazines. The Silverados are available in a multitude of sizes, engines, option pkgs and towing cap choices. Also, they currently have excellent pricing, cash back and financing incentives available (see below). Like I sad, after a test drive, I think you'd be very surprised. Good luck!
