996 max wheel size

I currently have a stock 996 (2003) with 17" wheels.  I would like to maximize the size of the rubber patch that is in contact with the road surface, specifically on DE events.  What is the largest wheel (dia and width) I can fit and what offsets should they have.

Ian, the basic upgrade is to 18" wheels - 8x18 front and 10x18 rear.  Depending on suspension, you might be able to get a wider wheel.  Regardless make sure that you use the proper offset.

as for tires, I've used 235/40/18 & 295/30/18 with MPSC's and 245/35/18 & 285/30/18 with Hoosiers without any problem.

Can I get 9x18 on the front and 11x18 on the rear and what offset would I need.

Standard front is 18x8 with 50mm offset

You could go to a 18x8.5 with a 40mm offset  (GT3 size)

 

Rear Standard is 18x10 with a 65mm offset

You could go 18x11 with a 63mm offset (GT3 size)

how "big" do you want to go? are you trying to compensate for something here?

Thanks, I hadn't thought about the GT3 wheels.  If I put the GT3 wheels on will I need to modify the body work at all.

I think you would be much better off "correcting" your suspension if your setup is currently the same setup in your avatar photo. I assume you have already installed the proper seats and safety eqt - not only is it safer, it will actually make you faster since you are no longer trying to hold on and drive at the same time. that is a lot of body roll, isn't it?  I believe that Ian has PSS9's on the car.
