NASA Mid-Atlantics biggest event of the year is always Hyperfest. Registration opens tomorrow and all DE and Racing classes are likely to fill up very fast, so if you're thinking about going don't forget to register!

General info on the event:
http://www.hyper-fest.com/

Registration:
http://www.nasaracing.net/sched_regis.htm

Hyperfest really goes beyond words to explain. NASA events are always fun for the simple reason that we have DE and Racing on the same weekend. Hyperfest is a spectator event and takes the whole experience to the next level with:

Road Racing (Todd and I will be engaged in a Battle Royale, guaranteed!!!)
DE (they call HPDE)
Carshow
Hyperdrives (basically single session DE for total newbies, so the friend you want to have see what it's like)
Shot-gun rides (ride on Jefferson with a BSR instructor, I did this last year with my girlfriend, really fun!!)
Off Road Rally Rides (Jeeps offroad with a BSR instructor)
Rollover competition (yeah you heard me!)
Music
Fireworks
Bikini contest Smile
etc......

If you're going to register for DE and have never done a NASA event, let me know and I'll help you figure out what group to register for!  PCA,BMW,SCCA racing licences are accepted!

Here's a commercial that ran on TV in 2007 for the event -- note that's me at :26s!

Nice.

Sounds very tempting.
Do you need to bring the race car and a girlfriend?

I thought you might be too busy rebuilding your engine with Daren.  My car is on jack-stands in my garage (a far too familiar sight over the past year).  Just getting the finishing touches done on the front end (left front headlight assembly, new splitters and installing a mesh front grill).  Let me know if you'll be around this Sunday.

Chris, it's just not the same without you here to lead the Gay Parisian Parade. Smile

Weather is warm and the feet are sore after walking 6 to 8 miles a day.

Calling Darren and Todd..

I had to leave on Saturday afternoon... race results aren't posted on the NASA website.  How did you guys do on Sunday?

I accomplished my goals... didn't crash and didn't finish last.  Darren, hope I didn't hold you up too much in the carusel when you were chasing Todd in Saturday's race.  I was chasing down another miata and we were battling for about 7 laps before I was able to make the pass stick on the second-to-last lap.   Both of my pre-race sessions (practice and qualifying) were in torrential rain and I hadn't been in a miata or at Summit Point in over a month.  I did really well in the rain and actually qualified 3rd (out of 7 SSM cars).  But, by the time of the race the track was completely dry and hot, and I was turning pretty crappy times for the first 15 minutes of the race.  I pulled another rookie move and missed a shift at the start (which was enough to ruin my good qualifying position and put me at the back of the SSM pack by turn 3).  It took me like 15 minutes to get comfortable on the dry track, and by the last two or three laps I was getting faster, but still only in the 1:34 range ( I still need about 2 - 3 more seconds).  By that time I was battling for 6th place (yes, both of us were frantically trying to avoid finishing last). I made a pass at turn 1 on the second-to-last lap and defended pretty well for the rest of the race.

So, this Miata thing is really getting humbling, but at least I'm making progress.  Three races and I have a DNF, last place, and now a second-to-last place.
