I need new wheels and tires for my new to me (but old) trailex trailer.

Trailex recommend radial tires but when i called up EasternMarine trailer shop in DE, he said it was perfectly fine to use bias ply especially considering I only use the trailer 5 or 6 times a year

what are the pros and cons of each?
what would those in the know do??
all advice appreciated!

Steve:

I figured watching Facebook tank was taking up too much time, so I checked to see what kind of tires I have on my Trailex.

Last year, I replaced the old tires that were on my used trailer with Goodyear Marathon tires.  Don't know any pros/cons, but that's what are on mine.

I think they were $125 each, plus installation.  The tires are quiet, seem to be holding up fairly well and have been fantastic in the rain.

Hope that helps.

Steve,

Per our discussion today I checked and Carlilse does make the 13" tire in 175 that is on your trailer.

An additional thought. I would suggest you you get two spares. If you run over something bad on one side there is a good chance it will get both tires.
Also google Trailer-Aid. It a quick and safe way to get a wheel off the ground. Very handy.

Here's the link for those too lazy to find it  Trailer-Aid

I have a jack with me when I trailer, but that's a handy gizmo.  Thanks for the info Jack.

hello. I've used both kinds of trailer tires (I've got more than 150k miles on my Pace enclosed trailer). the radials last MUCH longer, and wear much more even than the bias ply tires. the radials are more expensive, but in the long run, if you trailer frequently like I do, the radials are the ticket.
