The 915 was being uniquely recalcitrant on the way to AX#3. Could not shift into first without "debate".... Brought it home and found some shredded shift rod bushing in the tunnel.

Come to think of it, there was a guy there on Sunday that said he had the same exact problem with his 911, he was driving a Jeep if I remember correctly.

Yup I've been there before. This was one of my first projects when I got my car.
That shift rod bushing looks OLD and the cup bushing is not far behind..

When I did mine I cut my allen wrench to fit in the opening to unscrew the set screw.
Once I got the screw out a few turns I tied a thread around it incase it falls into "I just lost the set screw land". Angry

Now.. Just unscrew it enough to slide the cup off the rod (try not to remove it completely) It will only be holding on with 1or2 threads into the cup . This makes it much easier to reinstall and thread back into the shift rod.

I also put my rod bushing in boiling water to soften it up.

I hope this helps keep us posted..

A little Info...

Speaking of repairs, is the Blue Bird up and running again?

Sean!
While you are doing that job, also change the sloppy shift coupler in the back of the tunnel where it connects to the transmission shift rod. Stomsky racing makes the best part for this, and after you install it you can forget about it. The shifting will be firm and precise. Never put in a short shifter!!
