Is there a track you will NOT drive with RTR?

I lied, the  only reason I voted No to Pocono South this spring is because I ain't in white yet! Otherwise any track any time!

IMHO, North course backwards is awful because of that turn off the bowl. You get more speed going that direction because you can accellerate from 2 thru 1 instead of slowing down in that section. I'll also second the vote for never running Jefferson again. It's tough on brakes/tires and not that much fun. I'd love to see another date for Shenandoah instead.

Shenandoah allows a driver to learn car control technique. There are  a lot of places on the track where lift throttle car rotation and throttle steering the car is a necessary technique and the speeds where it can be learned are not at the triple digit level. This is one of my favorite tracks because several of the turns allow the driver to have the car at the limits of adhesion at moderate speeds. This track also has several turn combinations that require quick left to right or right to left transitions, which even further enhances one's driving skill set. The learning of good car control that is a universally applicable skill, no matter what track, no matter what speed.

I always hear about the line, and the line is going to make you able to go the fastest around the track (based on speed of the car turn radius, lateral acceleration forces) but when a late pass is made and your not on the line good car control skills will enable an experienced driver to not make an error when pressed for space to perform necessary braking and turning actions. When a drivers car control skills are refined  and they are on line they will ultimately go around the track fastest.

On a race track a driver needs to become part of the machine weather its a motor cycle a car go kart quad or snow mobile  knowing how the machine will behave with different forces being applied on it. It requires one to perform countless calculations almost subconsciously and to adapt to changes that may arise at any time that may change the available adhesion level. That is what is so great about what we do. When were out there were not thinking about work,$,politics,bills, or any thing else. It's pure focus on driving and trying improve and refine lap after lap. That is the essence of DE

I choose to run with another group at a track that I like than run with our club at a track that I don't like, ie. our first pocono event is the same date as Allegheny PCA at the Glen.  Except this year I am taking Chris M.'s advice and running with our region. 

Turns out looking at Jack's tread regarding advancement, I need to have experience at most if not all of the tracks RTR runs at with RTR to advance to the next run group.  Guess I will be going to Jefferson at one point, but not this year.  I am spending father's day with my kids.  While on the subject of holidays, it would be nice to schedule MAW on a day that doesn't conflict with a major Jewish Holiday (as it has in '05, '06 and this year).

Steve, I agree with your thoughts on car control skills required at Shenandoah.  However, with it's configuration and the proximity of walls to the track, it is not the place to learn/practice them, despite the lower speed (on many of the turns).

Of the tracks that RTR runs, it is the least favorite (I haven't driven JC).  At least Pocono is only a short drive.

As you know our little hobby is very popular and there are only so many tracks. A simple supply/demand issue. As soon as the other clubs that have the w/e before and/or after our slotted Pocono date stop booking the track, I'm sure we will jump on their date(s).

Let's run the Long course at Pocono.  We can add it as an optional Monday. I'll bet there are enough folks willing to pay a little extra to experience terminal velocity.

NASA has an event at Pocono in July that runs All three individual courses in one day rotating from course to course. On day two they run the double infield course which I think is the longest course at Pocono, something like 3.2 miles.  On day three they run the IMSA course which uses the North infield and has the Long Pond straight coming off the South bowl.  You can register for individual days.
