As a Porsche enthusiast, I've always appreciated the idea that the true measure of a sports car is not horsepower nor is it straight line acceleration.  Rather, I have felt that handling and braking are the more virtuous traits, making all the Porsches I've owned feel and seem superior to any other products on the market.  Well, I've had a bit of an epiphany.

I picked this 2006 Dodge Viper at the auction yesterday.  I now have developed a better appreciation for the concept of horsepower without reason.  This car sounds like an off shore race boat.  I'm not sure it would be my car of choice for the Carousel at Summit (nor Patrick's for that matter), but I'm giving serious thought to an evening at Atco to truly understand the American mentality.

Admit it, it frustrates you when someone asks you the 0-60 time on your car after you just spent all your money on products from PAGID, Bilstein, Hoosier, Kalani, etc rather than Borla and Sunonco.  A ride in this V10 510 BHP, 580 LBFT of Torque menace gives you a peek into the American Mentality.  I must admit, I get it.  All said and done, though I wouldn't trade my P-Cars for the world.

Dave, since you're so confused about this "american muscle", I'll gladly offer you one or two crisp new Benjamins for it.  I'm sure that you'll feel so much better with this car "out of your stable" and will ease your confusion.

So, what do you think?

Seriously, it's a great looking car, but why is it Blue?

Wow!!  I wholeheartedly agree with your confusion regarding the "American straight line acceleration is everything" mentality, but.............

If I were you, I would take that puppy out and beat on it untill my teeth rattled.  That car just sitting there so pretty and snide is all but asking for a vicious, multi-day pummelfest!

"Scared Straight" would meld with "The Fast and the Furious".  The heck with laws, this car virtually cries out "ANARCHY" as only American excess can.

That's why other countries hate us.  They are just oh so jealous of our toys.

Enjoy the custodial privileges while you can.

I drove one at the Skip Barber car control clinic, on an autocross course. Not the best place for that monster. I keep thinking of the Viper Attack video: http://jeffsweb.net/viperattack.php

This one matches up pretty well with the Viper going stright and also turns with the best of them.
