If this gets off the ground, there probably are DE folks interested other than just me.  Maybe an item for Der Gasser since ther aren't a lot of forum devotees.

Maybe the R-3 restraint system would be better, since it does not require a 5 or 6 point harness. I'd guess that most instructors would vote for the R-3.

TAKE A POLL!

2 years ago, the instructors had a small group buy on the R-3.  I purchased the HANs and wouldn't drive without it.

Would you sit in as a passenger, into a wild white run group driver who has only a 3 point belt with your Hans?.Confusedhock: Well then, you're probably not an instuctor.

The R-3 is designed to be used with ANY restraint system, while the Hans is for harnesses only. Please correct me if I am wrong........I am trying to choose the right device for my slow Confusedhock: driving and riding.

I'm aware of the difference between them.  If you're not an instructor, you may want to take a greater look at the HANs - it's still the one approved by all of the major racing bodies (F1, Nascar, Rolex, ALMS, etc).

As for sitting in the right seat in the White Group, here are my thoughts.  When I started DE'ing several years ago, it was strongly suggested to have seats/belts by the time you get to white.  I'm not certain why many have shied away from that.  At the end of my rookie season, Rick Owens was in my car on day 3 of the Pocono MAW event.  The first thing that he asked me was when I was going to get him belts in my car.  That was followed by "you don't want to go any faster until you're properly secured in the car" - like many others with 3-point belts, the wheel was helping to brace me in my seat.  This was in the Green Group.

Last season, he asked me what I thought about my investment.  I quickly replied that I didn't know how I drove without the seats/belts.

So Nick, my suggestion for you in your Red Eye Special is to get seats/belts if you don't already have them - would probably help you AX, too - and get whatever H&N restraint that you feel appropriate.  I'm partial to the HANs.  BTW, more than a few instructors carry both the R3 (for instructing w/3-points) and HANs (for their driving).

Any update on this group buy? I missed the date on the Rennlist GB, although I'm trying to find out what the price was.

Cheers,
