This Sunday, November 5th the Philly Region of the SCCA will be at Warminster:

http://www.phillyscca.com/solo2/index.html

Last autocross of the season in this area, register online until midnight, but walk-ups are welcome.  I won't be there as I will be attending the christening of possibly our newest little Riesentöter...

I'm signed up for the SCCA AutoX skool on Friday night (classroom work) and then all day Saturday. As part of this, I get free entry into Sundays event so will probably be there - depends how knackered i feel after stressie week back at work after trip to Aus and driving in circles all day Saturday..

FYi..... after earlier link about video taping autoX runs, i've actually hired a bulletcam & digital video recorder system from this website - https://www.helmetcamrentals.com/ - for the event - not bad for $55 + 24 postage. planning to stick the camera on both inside and outside of car (if permitted) but not on top of my helmet!

Didn't bring home a mug, but didn't embarass the family name or the Porsche marquee either.

Had fun.  Got 3 runs instead of the 6-8 at RTR events.  The Warminster course is longer and straighter than the ones I've attended at K of P.  Variety is a good thing.

The Novice classroom instruction and seat time sounded good, but I found out about it too late.

Even though I have a tough time with the Porsche placement in the  SCCA car classifications, I'll probably attend next year.

Our very own Graham Knight and Ken Nielson where also at the AX but I could not find any PiIcs of them.

However I did find this pic which seems to represent a whole new concept in AX.

Three runs are not enough, especially when you're in the first run group (like I was) and have to drive the course relatively cold. I only just got the hang of it by the time I was done.

It sounds like you need to walk the course more-how many times were you able to? Did you go on the "novice" walkthrough? More runs are great in a casual event, but game as played on the national stage is 3 runs. Keeps you sharp.

Elizabeth,

Thanks for posting the pictures. I wondered if any had been taken.

As for your other comments...

i) course walkthough:
I walked the course several times, but obviously this one gate looked different when I was driving in my car and I just had problems with it.

ii) timing:
The speed is not relevant to me, the challenge is tight handling at speed and learning car control. This particular course I was able to drive single handed - I know I'm a bad boy! Smile - without any stress.

I'm not a speed freak when it comes to AX, plus I don't do this for competition. My professional life is highly competitive, so I don't do competition in my spare time, otherwise my blood pressure would never come down.

iii) paintwork.
Yes, I'm a perfectionist. I buy nice things and preserve them like new. Things like paint dings drive me nuts - that's why my other cars are 10 years old and look like new. If I were to put my car in high wear situations, then I'd have bought an older Porsche. Confusedhock:
