Nitto NT 05 

This may be the perfect Driver Ed tire to drive to the track, do a Driver Ed, and drive back home on the same tire.  Nitto Tire engineers have described this tire as ... “If you’ve wanted an R-compound tire on the street, but were afraid of the highway use warnings, the new NT05 is the tire for you."

I personally am excited about this tire, since as many of you know I’ve been running the Nitto NT 01 on my Evo with great success.  I think the NT 05 will be  priced right and be an excellent performer.  This tire will be released for public sale in February 2009.  Here’s a few quotes from the review on these tires:

Looks like they will have size to fit my 993.  May have to give them a try. The long winter season is setting in already. Withdrawal sucks!

NFG! No sizes for my 40 yr. old car............ so no 16" sizes.:X No Problem.

I have recently switched (late August) from the Toyo RA-1's to the R-888's. I have 10 track days plus driving to and from the track. I thought that the RA-1's couldn't be topped, but the R-888's are better and faster from day 1. The tires have not shown significant wear. I have heard of guys putting these on heavy Beemers and chording them in 3 track days. But I believe that driving style has a lot to do with it............ some (drivers) are very hard on a car, period.hock:

Picking up the 1984 911 from Dawes Motorsports tomorrow, I think.  I'd like to come by and get the trailer beforehand and then head to Stroudsburg.

Very encouraging. I loved the NT-01s on my GT3, but there was not a 295 rear and the 305s rubbed a bit. The R888s just did not last on the rear at NJMP. Corded in just a few days.

Sorry to burst the bubble on the NT-01's... but I was not that impressed.  My MPSCs stuck much better (once up to temp) and lasted more than 50 heat cycles before going off.  Yeah, the MPSCs cost a bit more, but the performance and life-span was amazing.  My NT-01's lost almost 50% of their tread in one weekend (granted it was Jefferson) and then caused my wreck at the Glen (okay, maybe it wasn't the tires, but I'm superstitious and won't buy them again).
