Came upon this on Rennlist and think its the best lift solution I have ever seen for the average garage.

Check it out.

The stability of this unit is entirely dependent on the quality of the concrete floor and installatiion of the anchors.  Read the installation instructions carefuly in the link provided before considering purchase.

That is very similar to the Rotary lift I have in my "man cave". I picked it up used from a shop that was upgrading. Most lifts bolt to the floor although mine definitely has a bigger footprint than that one. Mine has at least ten bolts per side and outriggers that extend about 1-2 feet on either side of the main post.

Bill is absolutely right about the importance of the concrete, particularly the depth. Drill a hole before buying to check. The alternative is jack hammering and laying down a new patch that's up to the task.

CB

PS. Local RTRs are welcome to use my lift if you will let me "apprentice".

The alternative of jack hammering out a section of concrete is not all that simple. To be done correctly, the section being removed must be saw-cut and then drilled and pinned with at least #5 rebar. This way, the new concrete is tied into the existing floor for better strength.

Also, gotta allow for sufficient cure time on the new concrete. The good news is with this method you don't have to drill holes for the base plate of the lift. Just manufacture a template and "set" the bolts into the uncured wet concrete.

I would've gotten a regular garage lift by now, but I have a beam
in the ceiling that interferes with the clearance height.

The lift would be immensely handy to have.

I'm really leaning towards a mid-rise scissors lift, it will give me 48" under the car. Perfect for sitting on a stool and working on the front and rear unobstructed!

Lou-
I see your point.  But, if I was to invest the time and money, I'd at least like to get another cars' worth of storage under the lifted car to increase the garage capacity. IMHO Smile
