According to the Safety Tech Information posted on the website, harnesses apparently must be no more than 5 years old.  (Actually, the way I read it, if they are 5 years old they can't be used: "Harnesses which are five (5) yesrs [sic] old or older must be replaced.")

Can someone tell me, if a harness doesn't have a tag indicating its manufacture date (which is what I usually see), but has an expiration date of 2014, do manufacturers (in this case, Schroth) normally indicate an expiration date 5 years after the date of manufacture?

Larry,  The new tech form (next year) will indicate that if your harnesses were manufactured in 2005, they are out of date.  Some manufactures have simplified it by posting expiration dates instead.  Currently we are accepting Dec. 31 as the expiration date.  This is assuming that your harnesses are SFI.

Wally,

I appreciate the response, but want to make sure I understand it.  Specifically, if I have an SFI-compliant Schroth harness that has a tag with an expiration date of 2014 -- but not any date of manufacture indicated -- I can continue to use it through December, 2014?

Thanks,

Larry

Larry, that is correct.  We accept either manufacture or expiration date.

Hi Steve, Not at this time. The harness rule comes from National and they have no criteria for seats.Smile
