Dan Yonkers found this from another racer.  Dan has a brief cameo at the video beginning, but avoids the chaos by staying out front.  I show up 3/4 through the video when I pass the camera car.  I qualified 1st in class, 4th overall but was relegated to 33rd ( scruits DQ'd me by a mistake of their own) so I was pushing to get to the front.  Despite spinning in T1, I still finished 2nd in class with a new class GTS3 track record.   The video mixes Saturday and Sundays races together.  Dan and I both cruised to class wins on Sunday.  Something to pass the time till next year.

Bob, nice video!  I almost couldn't believe that the one car nearly flipped over on the front straight.............. looks like one car climbed up on the other like you see in formula cars.

You got unsettleled going over the candycane on the inside of turn 1:X too bad.  Congrats on the results.

Yeah, what was the deal with that car?  It was oscillating back and forth before they even hit.  Did something break?  I can't imagine that was from turbulence.

Bob, your turn one pass was how David Hobbs would say, "ambitious young lad". Wink Good thing you didn't get collected.  Good recovery to get back to the podium.

Bob,

Great performance, given the circumstances.  That all looks like a lot of fun! Well, maybe almost all of it.  Looks like that white car tried to take the middle path, but could quite determine where the middle should be.  Must've been pretty scary for those involved.

Kenny, that is what happened.  The vette was a super unlimited car and he would always brake early.  My lap times were faster than his, but with 500 plus hp he could motor the front straight quicker.  He saw me and blew his braking point stayed wide, then decided to turn in.  I kept moving in more and more giving him room to rim shot which is what a veteran racer would do, but he panicked, slowed even more and turn in at say 50mph.  I take that corner at 70 plus and spinning the car was my only option.  Fortunately I went both feet in for a split second, got my bearings and dropped it into 2nd gear after two spins then got to the apex of T2 back chasing.  I think I caught the car taking the video in the same place that he starts the video clip and even passed him in the same place in the lefty before the essess. Big Grin

The incident on the front straight was a bit weird,.  From my observation and knowing the two drivers it appears to be driver error.  The BMW  pulled close to draft a little, but miss-judged the closing speed.   Focusing on the bumper in front of him, he did not plan the next pass of the slower car on the right.  At 120 plus mph, you cannot oscillate the suspension on any car without a tail wag.   I felt bad for the guy in the 968.  He did nothing wrong not even a block since they were both in the same class.

I was definitely taking chances in that race to get back to the front .   I passed almost 30 cars in 7 laps and would have been challenging for the lead had a double yellow not dropped ending the race early.

Great find - sort of a little treat before Xmas. I was there at the race and it is a little confusing watching the two races mixed together. I was amazed at the number of cars and with such speed disparity. Not for the faint of heart.... but dang, looks like a rush being in the mix. I can see this being VERY addictive...
