Can Anyone Create a Silhouette from a jpg file?

Here is a small file size sample. I'm no artist but I'm trying to make a logo from a file I drew then scanned into my computer. I'm not smart enough to figure out how to get just the silhouette to become a file to use. When I upload the file, I get the lovely box around the silhouette.
