For the 2015 Riesentoter Autocross Championship Series, we will be instituting a new classification system through which we assign PAX factors to raw times (essentially a handicap factor based on car specs) to rank drivers.

We will be adopting the PCA Golden Gate Region's Points Classification System, which is incredibly robust, fully transparent, and easy to follow/understand. Thankfully, the GGR region is generous enough to let other PCA regions use their terrific system. You can find information about the points system here: http://classification.pca-ggr.org/classi.../index.php

What do you need to do?
Visit the link above and select the "Car Classification Form" link to begin classifying your car.

Be sure to walk through the form carefully and account for any modifications you may have made to your car. To the extent that this is overwhelming/confusing at all, please don't hesitate to make a post to this thread, and I will be happy to assist with your classification.

Once you have classed your car, please post on this thread to let me know. Your classification form will be visible for others to review, so I will follow up with any questions regarding your point assignments.

When do you need to do it?
As soon as possible. For any given event, we need to have each driver's classification in hand going into the event so that we can quickly turn around championship series race points totals and rankings following the event.

What is the result?
The point tally that results from you car classification form submission will put you into one of the following classifications for AX. Beside each classification, I've listed the PAX factor that will be applied to raw times at any event. So, for example, if your car is in the AX12 class and your best time at an event is 60 seconds, your adjusted time for competition purposes would be 60*0.928=55.68.

Class Point Range PAX Factor
AX01 1,151 - 32,767 1.000
AX02 1,001 - 1,150 1.000
AX03 901 - 1,000 1.000
AX04 801 - 900 0.993
AX05 751 - 800 0.986
AX06 701 - 750 0.978
AX07 651 - 700 0.970
AX08 601 - 650 0.962
AX09 551 - 600 0.954
AX10 501 - 550 0.946
AX11 451 - 500 0.938
AX12 401 - 450 0.928
AX13 351 - 400 0.917
AX14 301 - 350 0.906
AX15 251 - 300 0.894
AX16 0 - 250 0.883

Thank you in advance for taking the time to classify your car. We are really excited about this system and believe that it is going to significantly enhance the competitive dynamic this year!

Cheers,

Daniel

Dan,

How will the championship scoring be done? Points for attendance? Tie breakers?

V - thanks for asking. Very similar to last year, with two primary exceptions. 1) Participation points will be one point per event. 2) The top 6 events will be counted, since we are planning on more events this year (Dave - please chime in if my notes from the AX council meeting are incorrect).

To summarize the system:
First, Second, and Third Place awards will be determined for the 2015 Riesentoter PCA Autocross Championship Series. These awards will be determined with a points-based system that uses a PAX (Professional Autocross Index) system of scoring. This is essentially a handicap system in which a PAX value is assigned to each car class and is multiplied by the driver’s raw run time, resulting in a PAX time. For each event, drivers will be ranked according to the PAX time of their best run and will receive event points using the following formula:

Event Points = (10 Points) - (Rank #) + (1 Bonus Point for 1st Place)
Participation Points = 1 Point Per Event

Final point totals for the season will be calculated by summing each driver’s top six event points and cumulative participation points (no event count limit for participation points). Drivers must participate in at least 3 events to be eligible for Championship awards. Ties will not be broken.

Drivers are responsible for determining their own PAX car classification category using the framework outlined earlier in the thread. Any classification disputes will be resolved by the RTR Autocross Council in its sole discretion and with finality. For any questions regarding car classification, drivers should reply directly to this thread or email axcouncil@rtr-pca.org.

I plan to mod my car with suspension changes: Am I right that if modifications are made to a car during the season that affect the PAX score, the new PAX score then applies to any subsequent races with the mods? And is it fine to have multiple different PAX scores in a single season if serial changes are made to a car?

Yes, Shawn, that is right. You can actually have several setups in the online classification system and just use the appropriate one for any given event (if, say, you swap your wheels out for some events or add an intake mid season).
