[Sorry if this belongs under a different thread]

Now that Snell 2005 helmets may no longer be used for DE, I need to replace my helmet. Based on what I've read, there are only minimal differences between Snell's SA-2010 and SA-2015 standards. Therefore, all other things (except for cost) being equal, is there any reason why I shouldn't be almost completely indifferent to two comparable helmets, one of which is SA-2010 compliant and the other SA-2015 -- other than the latter would have twice the expected useful life of the former (assuming PCA/RTR continue past practices and prohibit 2010 helmets around 2020 and 2015 helmets around 2025 -- and ignoring that my personal useful DE life could expire before 2025)? So, for example, based on "useful" helmet lives, it might be economically rational to now pay up to twice as much for an SA-2015 helmet as for a comparable SA-2010 helmet. (And, yes, I'm ignoring factors such as normal wear and tear, if any.)

Hope that isn't too convoluted and makes sense.

Thanks.

If you drive enough, you may need a new helmet every 5 years. They get gnarly after a while, don't they? So pay 1/2 and use it for 5 years.
