The more DEs I do the more my 993 is becoming a track car.  The car has Harness / Evo seats and bar.  Are there any opinions on wether it's safer / better to have an airbag wheel or non-airbag wheel??

Jeff

I think the safest option is probably to get rid of the airbag and get a Hans. The factory airbag system is designed to work with the 3-point belt and no helmet -- I don't think they intended it to be used with a harness and helmet. A few years ago (2004) the SCCA issued a warning that said (basically) that using a full face helmet in an airbag car could cause injuries because the airbag creates stress on the chin part of the helmet, which it was not designed to take. So the recommendation at that time from the SCCA (I searched the Interweb but I don't see any newer statements from the SCCA or PCA) was to use an open helmet on airbag cars.

Take a look at how some of the guys that race have their cars set up.

Change the wheel.  The airbag sensor can be shunted during the installation and of course will be removed with the stock wheel.

Based on my own unfortunate experience, I believe that with proper seats and harnesses, the airbag will do nothing more than add thousands to the repair bill.

I was hoping that was the answer.  I really like the momo mod 07.  Just needed a reasonable excuse.

Thanks

I heard, fortunately not on the track.  Could I borrow your oil cooler???Wink

I am sure Bill will get it squared away quickly.  Come to the BMWCCA event at the Glen to make up for missing this one.

Bob,

I hope they can get it fixed before my next event (July 22 Glen - Schattenbaum).

Maybe my oil was too cool. Big Grin
